Yesterday, Andrew had to have a platelet transfusion. He was scared, but very brave. Chris brought him into the doctor and his platelet count was 15,000. Dr. Levine and Dr. Jamil recommended a platelet transfusion. Andrew also had a fever that was fluctuating. A lab was taken to see if he has an infection in his blood. If he has an infection, he will have to be treated with antibiotics in the hospital. We find that out today.
Andrew also went to U of M Hospital for a different lab. This lab is to test for genetic aplastic anemia. After the lab, Grandma took Andrew for a milkshake and to see the Big House. Go Blue!
We should find out on Friday whether one of us is a bone marrow match for Andrew. We will keep you posted.

Andrew's Story
On April 5, 2010 we took Andrew into the doctor because he was having trouble breathing. The doctor recommended a steriod treatment. Before giving steriods, they needed to check his white blood cell count. His white blood cell and platelet counts came back low. The doctor observed Andrew for about a week before sending us to a Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist. This new doctor did a bone marrow scan to see what was happening inside Andrew's bone marrow. Andrew was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. Aplastic Anemia is a blood disorder where the bone marrow fails to replace new blood cells. This blog has been made in order to inform our family and friends of Andrew's treatments and hospital stay. Please feel free to share with other people. Erin, The Rea's are praying so hard for Andrew! Whatever you need, I mean anything, DO NOT HESITATE! You have helped us with our son and we will help you with yours. It takes a village and we are village people...as you know. Keep smiling!
We are constantly praying....how can we see if match his tissue type...God is wonderful in times of fear...our dealings with allison at six months with possible hydrocephalus proved that for sure....different situation..but the grace of God sure can calm your fears some
